About Our Founders
Melvin Smith
Melvin and Traci Smith are entrepreneurs and philanthropists who've experienced a plethora of life encounters as a purpose-driven couple. Since their wedding on October 29, 2006, the couple, each with three children, quickly learned the necessity of diversification as a blended family.
Having studied at the University of Pittsburgh and Community College of Allegheny County (Traci) and Melvin at Cheyney University, Temple University, and Community College of Allegheny County, they embraced the need to excel by gleaning from their higher learning achievements. Upon graduation, their work opportunities afforded them 20 years of experience in youth sports, health, and human services.
Though natives of Pittsburgh, they experienced living in various cities like Maryland, Atlanta, Colorado, and Philadelphia, which better broadened their comprehension to seize opportunities and to think beyond the limited boundaries of regional mindsets. By embracing other cultures and diversity, they soon realized that regardless of one’s ethnicity or cultural backgrounds, everyone needs to know their purpose. An acronym Melvin asked Traci earlier in their marriage to embrace was R.M.P.C. - Renewing Minds for Positive Change. He believed there would be a great need for that one day in their future.
Melvin and Traci worked together with a habilitative provider for intellectually disabled adults when a unique opportunity introduced itself to them. They learned a participant by the name of Michael (whose name means God is with us) required residential placement and his family worried no one would take him in. Traci heard a still small voice say, "Make space for Michael in your home," and Melvin agreed with the proposed idea. Soon, the start of a fantastic purpose began, and yes, Michael led the way.
Now, with an understanding of their purpose to assist those often viewed as undesirable or unwanted, they realized the basis of their new mission. Soon, R.M.P.C. Renewing Minds for Positive Change Habilitative Services not only became a blessing for Michael but a God-inspired business and family mission. With purpose, underway, several concepts emerged as they sought to provide gainful employment and training for their growing number of participants. Within ten years, they launched new businesses that afforded those they served and the community to gain willful employment and become purpose-driven as well.
In 2019 R.M.P.C. ventured to Philadelphia to ensure others would benefit from the inspiration of purpose the Smiths hold so dear.
In 2020, they officially became the Presidents of a Parent Company called Divine Purpose with an increasing number of subsidiaries. Melvin and Traci knew deep within that by providing services that met the greater good for all persons, would permit them to share what they know all so well. Everybody’s Purpose Matters. As a result, employees, participants, and their families now have the chance to unfold a purpose-filled life.
